Broward Sheriff’s Office identifies body found in Parkland house

A domestic dispute at a home in a gated community led to a woman’s death Sunday, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.

The woman was identified as Dacota Stewart-Dick, 53.

Deputies found her body on the floor of a home in the 12400 block of Northwest 78th Manor in the Heron Bay development after receiving a call at 11:13 a.m. Sunday, said the Sheriff’s Office. Stewart-Dick was stabbed and was pronounced dead at the scene by Coral Springs Fire Rescue, BSO said.

Stewart-Dick’s husband, Alrick Oral Brown, 38, was taken to Broward Health North to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, said BSO spokeswoman Gina Carter.

The couple had lived together in their Parkland home for three years and had no history of police calls to their house, said the Sheriff’s Office. Stewart-Dick owned the house, according to Broward County Property Appraiser records.

Steve Gaswirth, who lives next door to the couple in the Heron Bay subdivision, said he heard nothing Sunday morning until his dog Riley began barking at the arrival of several police cars and Coral Springs Fire Rescue.

He said that although Stewart-Dick had been his neighbor for at least two years, they were no more than nodding acquaintances. “They seemed very pleasant, very cordial,” he said.

Five hours after the first police units arrived, police technicians and detectives were still on the scene, coming and going behind yellow tape that marked off Stewart-Dick’s house. Outside the gates of Heron Bay, television satellite trucks were parked along Nob Hill Road.

Inside the community neighbors stood in small groups and chatted about the first reported violence that most could remember. “Late-night noise. Very little happens here,” said Gaswirth, 62.

Sheriff’s Office homicide detectives are continuing to investigate the death.

Authorities ask anyone with information to call BSO Homicide Detective Kelly Stull 954-321-4210 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
