Coral Springs bicyclist struck, killed in Parkland accident

A bicyclist died when he veered out of a bike lane and into traffic along West Hillsboro Boulevard in Parkland, authorities said.

Edward David Rosen, 57, of Coral Springs, was riding his bicycle around 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the designated bike lanes on the south side of Hillsboro Boulevard.

When a black Ford Focus traveling in the same direction approached Rosen, he swerved to the left and in front of the vehicle, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office. The car struck the rear of the bicycle, knocking Rosen to the ground.

Rosen, who was wearing a helmet, died at the scene of the accident at approximately 6:53 p.m., the sheriff’s office said.

Traffic homicide detectives said neither speed nor impairment was a factor in the accident. The investigation is ongoing.
