Coral Springs Center for the Arts kicks off new season

Coral Springs Center for the Arts is known for bringing A-list entertainment to the local community. Everyone from Jason Alexander and Vonda Shepard to Russell Brand has appeared there. The 2015-2016 is packed with plenty of reasons to check out this dynamic venue this season, including cooking with Giada De Laurentiis and live music with The Charlie Daniels Band and Boz Scaggs.

“We have some really big names coming this year that I’m very excited about booking, such as Howie Mandel, Vince Gill, Arlo Guthrie, as well as the winner of last year’s ‘The Voice’ on NBC, country rocker Craig Wayne Boyd,” said Coral Springs Center for the Arts General Manager Kevin Barrett. “We are also debuting a brand-new Black Box Studio Series in our upstairs, 80-seat, black box theater space. It includes four original plays written by Coral Springs resident and talented writer Gabe Hammad.”

Barrett said the titles are current. “[He’s presenting] ‘The Rocking Dead,’ which is a parody of the ‘The Walking Dead’ and ‘Fifty Shades of Hillary,’ a brilliant comedy spoofing the former senator and first lady that is scheduled to run here during the Florida primary season.”

“Other titles include ‘A Very Kosher Christmas,’ ‘I Love You Because,’ and ‘#Unhappy Hour,'” he said. “Gabe is a brilliant writer, and we’re very happy to have him onboard and producing this type of cutting-edge theater. The scripts are hilarious.”

Coral Springs resident Jane Rogers is especially looking forward to the 2016 season. “Whenever I have family coming into town, we often like to go to a show at Coral Springs Center for the Arts,” Rogers said. “We’ve seen top comedians [there], as well as musical acts. It’s always a good time in a great venue where parking is never a hassle.”

Enriching the arts and culture of the Coral Springs community is also important to Barrett and his team. “Culture brings people together in ways that are unique,” he said. “We have great people working here, and they are brand ambassadors for the city.

“Every time someone comes here from out of town, they are welcomed into the city with open arms, and introduced to a whole new world on stage,” Barrett said. “For local residents, the Center is a big part of the fabric of Coral Springs. It’s a difference maker when people are deciding where to live. It’s a big asset for the city. When they talked about tearing it down, hundreds of people came out to protest such a crazy idea.”

Although each show has individual tickets available, Barrett said the new Black Box Studio Series offers seasonal subscriptions. “It’s a great deal to see five shows in our upstairs cabaret space,” he said. “For the main theater, we offer several price options for every pocketbook or wallet out there.”

Subscriptions include The Black Box Studio Series, at $99 for three shows or $125 for five.
