Firefighters were called to a home in the 1300 block of Northwest 102nd Drive on Sunday afternoon after a lightning strike ripped open an interior wall of a bedroom, authorities said.
“Fortunately, nobody was hurt,” said Michael Moser, division chief of the Coral Springs Fire Department. “But this shows you the power of lightning.”
The lightning strike occurred just before noon during a round of heavy thunderstorms that prompted the National Weather Service to issue a flood advisory for parts of central Broward County.
Moser said firefighters checked the home for fire, but found none. The electrical system may have been damaged, however, he said.
The fire department tweeted photos of the damage done to the inside of the bedroom.
