Pair of Buckeyes among Florida Panthers hopefuls

One doesn’t think of Ohio State as a hockey powerhouse, yet there were two Buckeyes buzzing around the net at last week’s intrasquad scrimmage on the final day of the Panthers’ development camp.

Miguel Fidler, a 20-year-old left wing drafted by the Panthers in the fifth round in 2014, participated in his third development camp, while his Buckeyes teammate, Anthony Greco, was one of a dozen free-agent invitees fighting to continue their hockey careers.

Greco, 22, made his presence felt as the 5-foot-10 speedy right wing scored two goals while playing on the same line with Fidler.

“We were talking during the game about how much fun it was for me and [Fidler] to play a little bit together like back at school,” Greco said.

He hopes to have an injury-free 2016-17 season and eventually land an entry-level contract.

“Obviously, that’s a goal of mine next year, especially in Florida,” Fidler said. “It’s an amazing place to play. They’ve got great kids here. There’s not much to complain about here in Florida.”
