Parkland approves budget with slight property tax decrease

Under a unanimously approved spending-and-taxing plan, city homeowners will see their property tax rates slightly lowered and city employees will get a 3 percent raise.

At a Wednesday evening budget hearing, city commissioners gave final approval to a balanced budget of $22.9 million. A year-end surplus of $500,000 was used to balance next year’s budget.

The property tax rate for next year will be $400 per $100,000 of assessed value, down from $402.

The fire fee remains $210, but the solid-waste assessment fee increases by $10.08 to $338.52.

The city will add one full-time and 13 part-time positions.
