The city is turning 50 next summer, and staff has been instructed by the City Commission to start coming up with celebration ideas.
Among Mayor Michael Udine’s suggestions: a parade in conjunction with a high school homecoming parade, a carnival, and a concert. He said he’d like to see city groups involved in the planning, such as historical society experts and women’s groups.
“Let’s do a whole series [of events],” he said.
Parkland isn’t the only city gearing up to celebrate a milestone. In July 2013, Coral Springs turns 50 years old as well. That city has appointed a volunteer committee to come up with event suggestions.
