Parkland library to waive overdue fines in exchange for food donation

Patrons of the city-run library holding on to overdue books because they don’t want to pay a fine are getting a reprieve in exchange for the books and movies.

Up to $1 in fines will be waived for each non-expired, non-perishable food item donated in April. The library will donate the food to a soup kitchen.

Fines are 25 cents a day for books and $1 a day for movies. Outstanding fines total about a couple hundred dollars, library manager Joe Green said.
