The crash happened at about 12:10 a.m. in the 4600 block of Coconut Creek Parkway on Sunday.

According to a Coconut Creek police news release, a preliminary investigation determined that the Mercedes Benz, heading west on Coconut Creek Parkway, was “driving at a high rate of speed,” eyewitnesses told police.

The black Mercedes then collided with the back of the other car, a Mitsubishi. Police said the collision was “so severe that it pushed the Mitsubishi into the eastbound lanes,” where the Mitsubishi came to a stop.

Police arrived to the find the Mercedes on its side with the driver trapped in the car. The person was extricated and taken to Broward Health North.

The Mitsubishi was found several hundred feet away. Both people inside the car were pronounced dead at the scene.

Police hadn’t yet released the identities of those involved by Sunday evening.

Investigators were still working to determine if alcohol played a role in the incident, police said.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Coconut Creek Traffic Unit at 954-956-1553.
