There is some great family fun this weekend throughout South Florida.
The third weekend of every month brings several special deals, including the Target Free Third Friday at the Miami Children’s Museum, which means admission is free from 3-9 p.m. Because the event can get crowded, families are asked not to bring strollers. The third weekend also means the Model Steam Train Rides are running at Tradewinds Park in Coconut Creek.
Rides on the 1/8 model trains are offered every third weekend of the month from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The rides are $1.50 (cash only) per person and are good for all ages. Tradewinds Park is at 3600 W. Sample Road, Coconut Creek. A gate entrance fee of $1.50 per person (age 6 and up, $8 maximum per car) is collected on weekends. 954-357-8720.
If you’re in Miami, every weekend is train weekend with 20-minute train rides on the “Edwin Link Children’s Railroad” or Link train. It departs at 1 and 3 p.m. weekends at the Gold Coast Railroad Museum, 12450 SW 152nd St., Miami. Rides are $2.50 per person. Call 305-253-0063.
In Palm Beach County, the third weekend brings the free Sunday on the Waterfront concert in West Palm Beach. This month, catch a tribute to the Eagles with the Alter Eagles, 4-7 p.m. at Meyer Amphitheatre, 105 Evernia St. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs to enjoy the tunes. Other weekend events include the Daddy-Daughter Hawaiian Luau in Plantation. Kids ages 7 and older can learn to Kick Out Bullying at 2 p.m. Friday at the West Boynton Beach Branch library. Black-belt master instructor Gary Horner of Martial Artists Against Bullying will teach practical strategies for identifying and dealing with bullying behavior and how to “buddy” rather than “bully” others.
