‘Wizard of Oz’ art swiped from Coral Springs

Dorothy and the Wicked Witch of the West are clearly evident in the 3-D piece “Wizard of Oz” by Charles Fazzino, one of the country’s most popular artists.

What’s not evident is where the picture is now.

It was stolen from a home in Coral Springs sometime between Oct. 24 and Oct. 26, police said.

Police said the work might have been sold around Lake Worth on Oct. 26.

The value of the piece has not been disclosed, but other works by Fazzino being offered online range from $800 to almost $10,000.

Fazzino is from New Rochelle, N.Y., according to a profile in Westchester magazine.

As a measure of his popularity, the magazine’s online component says Fazzino’s name “is spoken in the same sentence as other hyper-successful commercial artists like Peter Max, Red Grooms, Keith Haring and Takashi Murakami,” the magazine’s profile said.

Authorities ask anyone with information about the case call Coral Springs Detective Chantel Mears at 954-346-1218 or report an anonymous tip to Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
